Naked Singularity’s tortuous history begins with a comment by astrophysicist David Palmer in an answer to a question posed to Ask An Astrophysicist. From there it was only a matter of time…
The original band performed one gig at the Goddard Rec Center in 2001, following which several members left. The next incarnation of the band (Maggie, Kevin, Rich, and Tali) coalesced in December 2001 and stayed together for the next 4-5 years – that’s like a lifetime to a rock band! Sadly Tali spontaneously combusted took a job at MIT. We were sad to see him go. But we were lucky enough to have Rob join the band as our new drummer in July of 2006. Joe joined us on guitar not long after.
The band took a forced hiatus during the pandemic, during which time Joe and Rob had both permanently moved. In 2025, Kenji Numata (drums) and Dakota Dutko (lead guitar) joined the band. They spent 2025 finishing up a few older songs leftover from The Before Times, and also started recording new material. They had their first gig with the new line-up in December 2025, and hope to play out more.
